I had high hopes of what our management team wanted to accomplish and no definite concept of how to do so. We simply knew that we wanted it to be a fun, challenging and unique opportunity for the staff to incorporate environmental issues with teambuilding activities. I teach a class on mathematical tools in finance for the SFU Global Asset and Wealth Management Program.

To wrap up the course I wanted to review the major concepts in a fun and unusual way. Jackie had an idea to incorporate this review in an team building orienteering session. At each point on a map, the students had to solve a problem which gave them the location of the next point.

This worked great. The students had a blast and truly got into the whole experience. I wasn’t complaining either, as I could see how my teaching is really sinking in. Even now, a few months later, the students continue to talk about our orienteering session as one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling events of the program. I could now see a number of ways to incorporate teaching and team building activities. We will certainly do that again next year.
